The best for Carpet

If you have carpeting, select a robot vacuum that has a high score for rug and carpet maneuverability and pickup. Many models do a decent job of picking up dust that is embedded in carpets with low pile and some do a decent job at picking up heavier debris such as orzo pasta, metal screws, and pet hair. But they don't pick up fine particles like canister or upright vacuums and may also be unable to pick up dirt in the vicinity of thresholds and baseboards.

For homes with carpets, a 2-in-1 robot mop/vacuum is the best option. You can swap out an empty bin for a damp mopping mat. If you're looking for a top-of-the-line vacuum Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum & Mop is a fantastic option. It comes with a huge dock that can last for weeks without having to be empty. It also has impressive ability to navigate and auto-empty on carpets and floors with no floor. It also has a clever mapping system and can be set to only run for certain times (a useful feature for keeping pets and children who are prone to mischief from running wild). The Shark isn't as powerful than other mop/robot combos, but its still very effective in removing hair and pet hair. It is the most affordable of our top picks.

Best for Hard Flooring

Robot vacuums are best for hardwood floors, as they can navigate around obstacles easily without damaging the surfaces that are not. They are fantastic in removing dust and crumbs, but struggle with pet hair or larger debris. They lack the suction power of a high-end canister or upright vacuum, making them a poor choice for deep cleaning carpeted or upholstery areas.

The best two-in-1 robots combine mopping and vacuum and take care of the entire chore in one go. If you have floors that are mixed you should look for one with an onboard sensor that detects any changes in floor texture and adjusts suction accordingly. Its sensors help it avoid stairs and other hazards so you don't have to be worried about the robot falling down the stairs and breaking your hardwood.
